Start with the cargo-ready date and the latest acceptable delivery date, then compare door-to-door time and total cost rather than only the main sea, rail or air leg. Sea freight can be compared for planned replenishment with a flexible deadline; rail and road options can be assessed for tighter replenishment windows. Very urgent cargo may justify air freight, subject to cargo acceptance, capacity and final delivery arrangements. Use the same pickup address, delivery postcode, cargo details and scope for every comparison. If expediting the whole shipment is too costly, assess sending the critical quantity first and the balance later.
Provide the product name and use, package count and type, packed dimensions and gross weight of each package, stackability, pickup address in China, delivery address and postcode in Europe, cargo-ready date and latest required delivery date. Declare batteries, liquids and other special characteristics, and state whether customs clearance, insurance, storage or a warehouse appointment is needed. For full containers, include container type and loading conditions; for machinery, add photographs and dimensional drawings. Total weight or volume can support an initial discussion, but changes to dimensions, addresses or cargo characteristics may require a new quotation.
Arrival at a European port or rail terminal is a transport milestone, not confirmation that the goods are released and ready for delivery. Unloading or deconsolidation, release authorisation, import clearance or transit formalities, and vehicle and warehouse bookings may still be needed. Confirm the current milestone, missing documents, collection availability, free-storage deadline and receiving window for the actual shipment. Do not treat the estimated terminal arrival date as the delivery date. For time-sensitive cargo, check warehouse opening hours and unloading conditions in advance so that delivery can be arranged when the goods become available.
